What it does
Every sitting stays in your history exactly as you counted it, with a calendar of the days you chanted lit up and quiet insights about your rhythm: how much you chanted this month, how many malas, and on how many days. If you chanted on a physical mala, add the sitting by hand so your history is whole. All free.
How it works
- Finish a sitting. It goes into your history with its count, time and mantra.
- Open the calendar. Days with japa are lit. Tap a day to see its sittings.
- Add a sitting counted on a mala in your hand, or correct one.
- Read your insights: monthly totals of chants, malas and days.
- Share an offering card if you want to; nothing is shared unless you choose to.
What Japo shows, and what it does not
| Japo shows | Japo does not show |
|---|---|
| Every sitting, as counted | Streaks that break |
| Days lit on a calendar | Scores or levels |
| Monthly chants, malas and days | Leaderboards or rankings |
| Your own rhythm over time | Comparisons with anyone else |
Many japa apps add streaks and leaderboards to keep you opening them. Japo leaves them out on purpose: a missed day is a day, not a failure, and japa is not a competition. The comparison of japa apps shows which apps take which approach.
What it feels like
At the end of the month you open insights: 18,360 chants, 170 malas, 24 days. The calendar has gaps on the days you travelled, and nothing about them is red. You add Sunday's sitting, counted on your tulsi mala at the temple, and the month is complete.
Who it is for
Anyone keeping a daily practice who wants an honest record, and anyone working through a sankalpa or anushthan.
