The mala in your pocket.

Japo is a pocket mala: a japa counter that feels like the real thing. Pull a bead with your thumb, feel a soft tick, and pick up exactly where you stopped.

422

Pull the strand down, or tap anywhere here. At 108 the sumeru passes through, just as it does in your hand.

Close your eyes.

Japo is made for your thumb, not your eyes. Chant the way you would with a mala in your hand.

Feel every bead

A soft tick for each bead, and a firm buzz as the sumeru passes at 108.

Count without looking

Volume up counts, volume down undoes. The lock screen shows the count, never your mantra.

Never lose your place

Every bead is saved as you count it, through a call, a restart or a dead battery.

Your mantra, in your own script.

Written in English, Hindi, Gujarati, Telugu and Kannada. 27 mantras, or your own.

ॐनमःशिवाय

Malas that arrive as you chant.

Each mala comes at a count from japa tradition, with its own look and its own feel under the thumb. Keep scrolling to chant your way to one crore.

Take a sankalpa of a lakh or a crore, with the reason you took it, and Japo shares it out over the days that remain.

    Questions, before your first mala.

New to counting japa? Start with how to do japa with a mala, or try the online japa counter before you download.

    Is Japo free?

Yes. Counting, history, the calendar, insights, sankalpa and anushthan goals, all 27 mantras and reminders are free for everyone, with no ads. Japo Plus is optional.

What does Japo Plus add, and what does it cost?

Japo Plus adds automatic backup, private to you, after each sitting, and the mala collection: Tulsi at 1,008 lifetime chants, Chandan at 10,800, Sphatik at 1,25,000 and on to Swarna Rudraksha at one crore. It is a single purchase, not a subscription: ₹199 in India and $4.99 in the US, with the App Store showing your local price.

    Does Japo work without internet?

Yes. Counting, history and goals all work offline. Japo has no server of its own, and the mantra list is built into the app.

Can I count without looking at the screen?

Yes. Each bead gives a soft tick you can feel, and a firmer one as the sumeru passes at 108. Volume up counts and volume down undoes, and while a sitting runs the count waits on your lock screen with +1 and Undo. The lock screen only ever says "Japa" and a number.

What happens if my phone restarts in the middle of a mala?

Nothing is lost. Every bead is saved the moment you count it, so after a call, a restart or a dead battery your sitting is exactly where you left it.

Which languages and mantras does Japo have?

Japo is written in English, Hindi, Gujarati, Telugu and Kannada. It comes with 27 mantras, from Om Namah Shivaya and the Hare Krishna Mahamantra to the Gayatri, Navkar and Waheguru, and you can write your own in any script.

    Is Japo on Android?

Japo is on the iPhone App Store now (iOS 15 or later). The Android version is coming to Google Play.

    Does Japo collect my data?

No account, no sign-up, no ads and no analytics. What you chant stays on your phone. The only data that leaves it is the purchase record when you buy Plus, handled by the App Store and checked anonymously.

    Begin your next mala.

Japo is free to download. Your count, your history and your mantra stay with you.
